How to make a muschroom tincture

With the double extraction method?


HOW IT'S MADE Double-extraction is a method of preparing a mushroom tincture that involves using both alcohol and water to extract the beneficial compounds from the mushroom. This method is believed to yield a more potent and well-rounded tincture than a single extraction using alcohol alone.

The double-extraction method typically involves the following steps:

  1. Collect the mushrooms fruiting bodies and clean them thoroughly.

  2. Chop the mushroom into small pieces and place them in a large pot.

  3. Cover the mushroom with water and bring to a boil.

  4. Reduce heat and simmer for 1-2 hours, until the water has reduced by about half.

  5. Strain the liquid through a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth and discard the mushroom pieces.

  6. Allow the liquid to cool to room temperature.

  7. Combine the liquid with a high-proof alcohol solution (min 50%), such as vodka or grain alcohol, in a clean, glass jar. Do half/half so 50ml of mushroom water and 50ml alcohol solution.

  8. Seal the jar and store it in a cool, dark place for several weeks (at minimum 14 days; the longer the better, tinctures from 4 months or several years make stronger tinctures), shaking it every few days to mix the contents.

  9. After several weeks, strain the liquid through a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth to remove any remaining solid particles (never use a metal strainer, it can affect the power of your tincture).

The water extraction process helps to extract the water-soluble compounds from the mushroom, while the alcohol extraction process helps to extract the alcohol-soluble compounds. By combining the two, the resulting tincture is believed to be more potent and effective.


STORAGE

  1. Bottle the resulting liquid (if possible in amber or blue glass) and store it in a cool, dark place until ready to use.

  2. The end result contains a tincture from 25-30% alcohol and in this way, it is shelf stable.


USAGE

10 to 30 drops per day are applied directly to the tongue or added to a drink (coffee, tea, etc.). This can be divided into several doses throughout the day, or taken in one serving. Higher doses are possible in severe cases and should be advised by your practitioner.


It's possible to make separate tinctures from solo mushrooms that you can combine in the way you need them, or you can make mixed tinctures that are cooked together. Combination tinctures are in more synergy with each other but solo tinctures can be useful.


WHY MUSHROOMS?

Mushrooms contain knowledge of the earth and old wisdom. They help you to awaken the source energy in yourself. As a tincture you can micro-dose daily, which has many advantages. They allow you to heal old injuries and heal illnesses where you were suffering from, for many years. But you need to be cautious with which mushrooms you use; only medicinal and edible examples. And use good quality bio-dynamic or biological alcohol. You don't need to use the 100% food-grade alcohol because this one is so pure it is difficult to use directly. A 40% whisky or vodka is a good idea. We use our own distilled alcohol from our bio-dynamic fruit garden 55%.
